Menu is grayed-out/disabled/dimmed

If the program menu is dimmed (grayed-out) or disabled, there are two possibilities:

A.  If you are using Excel 2013, macros are not enabled.  To enable macros, select "Convert to QB" and click "About".  At the Excel prompt, select "Enable macros".  All options on the "Convert to QB" menu should now be enabled.

B. If you are using Statement Converter version 3.1.0 or earlier, Excel does not see your statement config file in the same folder as the statement you are converting.  Here's what to do:

1. Location: Make sure that the "system" config and the "statement" config files are in the same folder as the .CSV/Excel file you wish to convert.

2. File names:

  • For both Windows and Mac, the config filenames must end in the .txt extension.

If you rename the sample files, be sure not to add a second .txt and end up with a filename ending in ".txt.txt". This can happen particularly if your Windows is set to hide file extensions and you, not seeing .txt on the screen, think that the extension is not there and so you add it, resulting in .txt.txt (one .txt that you see, one .txt that is hidden).

  • For Statement Converter versions 2.4.47 and earlier, on Windows, config filenames start with StatementConverter_config_ and on Mac, config filenames start with SC_config_, like this:

  • For Statement Converter versions 2.4.48 and later, config filenames may start with either StatementConverter_config_ or SC_config_.

3. Folder name on Mac: Excel macros on the Mac cannot handle long folder names, so it is suggested to use a folder name 25 characters or less. For example, instead of "QuickBooks Statement Converter Program" use "QB Stmt Converter".

4. RESTART EXCEL:  After ensuring the above are correct, restart Excel and your open your statement to be converted. The menu should display as expected.
